Structure.

Study takes place from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Three days a week, this window of time is used for Drills & Lectures. Twice a week, it is used for Labs.

5:00Pm - 6:00pm (Mon,WED,Fri)

Drills

We will often start the session with a Unity or Unreal game engine lesson. Game development is fun & flashy; which adds an incentive for students to arrive on-time. This time slot is reserved for practicing repetitive techniques like touch typing, traversing a UNIX-based file system, constructing regex strings, memorizing useful UNIX commands, manipulating Git version history and the like. These tasks are done so often, learning to do them efficiently can dramatically boost a programmer’s productivity.

6:00Pm - 7:00pm (Mon,WED,Fri)

Lectures

There are many aspects of software engineering that are abstract, niche and novel with respect to most folk’s everyday experience. It is paramount that students of computer science have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of design, language syntax, development tools and best practices. Students will be exposed to new topics and have an opportunity to ask their instructor questions during in-depth lectures on coding theory.

5:00pm - 7:00pm (TUES,THURS)

Lab

Again, we will often start the session with a Unity or Unreal game engine lesson. Coding is a craft. One gets good at it by doing it repetitively and competitively. So, students are given assignments that reinforce the lectures and challenge their current skill level. We match students in groups of two. Every developer has a partner to bounce ideas off of. They are expected to author their projects as a team.
